Tennis Teams Host Saint Mary’s on Saturday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's and women's tennis teams will welcome Saint Mary's University to the Duluth Indoor Sports Center on Saturday.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints dropped their first season opener since the 2011 season when they were defeated by Concordia College-Moorhead on Saturday.
-Elliot Schneider (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) was the only Saint to win at the No. 2 singles spot.
-In fact, in the four matches played by UMAC teams last week, his singles victory was it in the conference.
-In doing so, he was named the UMAC Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
-The loss also ended a 15-match winning streak.
 
What You Need to Know about Saint Mary's:
-The Cardinals went 1-1 to open the season last weekend with a 9-0 victory over Martin Luther College and an 8-1 loss to Carleton College.
-Bobby Tiedeman went 2-0 at the No. 4 singles spot.
-Branden Amiotte won six matches at No. 1 singles last season.
-SMU has been picked to finish ninth in the 10-team Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints went 1-1 on opening weekend, dropping the opener to the University of Minnesota-Duluth on Friday, but bouncing back to defeat Concordia College-Moorhead on Saturday.
-Katelyn Rice (Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth-Gilbert HS) and Sarah Coryell (Golden Valley, Minn./Armstrong HS) both went 2-0 in singles play.
-Coryell has won 13 straight singles matches.
-Rice was named the UMAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week.
 
What You Need to Know about Saint Mary's:
-The Cardinals went 1-1 to open the season last weekend with a 9-0 victory over Martin Luther College and an 8-1 loss to Carleton College.
-The No. 1 doubles team of Laura Sonday and Colleen Lois went 2-0 on the weekend.
-Sonday won 12 matches at the No. 1 singles spot in 2017.
-SMU is 43-13 in non-conference play since 2012.
-Saint Mary's won five MIAC matches last season, its most since the 2005 season.
-The Cardinals also made the MIAC Tournament in 2017 for the first time since 2010.
-SMU has been picked to finish eighth in the MIAC this season.
