Final Regular Season Road Games for Men’s Hockey

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team has its final road trip of the regular season this weekend when it faces No. 3 St. Norbert College (Wis.) on Friday and Finlandia University (Mich.) on Saturday.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-After an 11-game unbeaten streak, the Saints dropped both games last weekend and fell out of the national polls.
-With two weekends and four league games remaining, the Saints have fallen to fourth in the NCHA North Division, but are only a point behind second place Marian University (Wis.) and Lawrence University (Wis.).
-CSS also has to watch out for Northland College, who is four points behind the Saints.
-The top four teams from each division make the NCHA Harris Cup playoffs.
-CSS still plays Marian and Lawrence at home to close the regular season next week.
-Sophomore Kyle Star (Langley, British, Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) had his point streak end at nine games in Saturday's loss.
-Star leads the team with 15 assists and 20 points.
-Sophomore Nolan Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)) scored a goal in each game last weekend.
-Nolan's twin brother, Davis Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)), leads the team with seven goals.
-CSS surrendered five power-play goals last weekend after allowing only four the previous 10 games combined.
-CSS' streak with at least one power-play goal ended at 11 games on Saturday.
-It is 13-3 when it scores with the man-advantage.
-The Saints once again lead the NCHA in penalty minutes and rank third nationally at 19.6 per game.
-St. Scholastica is 10-1-1 when it records the first goal.
-The Saints have out-scored teams 29-18 in the third period and have four wins when trailing at the second intermission.
-Senior assistant captain Mark Whiteley (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross HS (Marian University)) is projected to play in his 100th career game on Friday.
 
What You Need to Know about St. Norbert:
-The Green Knights enter the weekend with a 16-4-1 overall record and 11-3 in the NCHA.
-St. Norbert is ranked third in this week's USCHO.com and D3hockey.com polls.
-It ended a three-game losing streak with a 5-1 win at Trine University (Ind.) on Saturday.
-St. Norbert has yet to lose at home this season at 9-0-1.
-SNC can clinch the top seed in the North Division with a win on Friday.
-Forward Keegan Milligan leads all NCHA freshmen with 10 goals.
-Senior Tanner Froese has a team-high 15 assists.
-Junior goaltender T.J. Black ranks fifth in NCAA Division III with a 1.62 goals-against-average.
-The Green Knights continue to hold the top scoring defense in the nation, allowing only 1.67 goals per game.
-SNC ranks third in the country with a 91 percent success rate on the penalty kill.
-The Green Knights have out-scored teams 34-16 in the third period.

Series History: Two weeks ago, the Saints earned their second-ever win over a No. 1-ranked team , defeating the Green Knights 4-3 at Mars Lakeview … Freshman Parker Mismash (Edina, Minn./Edina HS (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) recorded his first collegiate multi-goal game in the win … The last time CSS defeated St. Norbert twice in the same season was during the 1992-93 season.
 
What You Need to Know about Finlandia:
-The Lions enter the weekend with a 1-19-1 overall record and 0-13-1 in league play.
-Finlandia's one win and one tie have both taken place at home.
-Freshman Connor Hannon leads the team with six assists and eight points.
-Juniors Paul Lochner and Alex Rezansoff each lead the team with four goals.
-Freshman goaltender Marcus Gloss has the win and the tie on his record and has a .906 save percentage.
-The Lions have scored the fewest goals in NCAA Division III (28).
 
Series Record: CSS leads 10-1 (Last Meeting: 4-3 CSS – 1/19/2018)
 
Series History: The Saints escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Lions two weeks ago at Mars Lakeview … The lone CSS loss in the series took place at Finlandia in November of 2014.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints close out the regular season at home when they welcome Marian University (Wis.) on Friday and Lawrence University (Wis.) on Saturday.
