MANKATO, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team fell to Bethany Lutheran College 82-64 Saturday afternoon despite a 20-point comeback.

The Action
The Vikings (8-1, 2-0 UMAC) grabbed the first 12 points of the night in the opening minutes of play. The Saints would not score until about five minutes in. Shortly after their first basket, Lizzie Altendorf (Braham, Minn./Braham HS) hit a three-pointer, but by the time the first quarter concluded, the Vikings had created a 21-point spread. In quarter two, the Saints stepped up the pressure and were able to force a couple turnovers that would allow them to go on a 14-4 run. However, BLC responded with a 10-2 run of its own to end the first half. The Vikings were able to maintain their more than 20-point spread going into the second with a score of 43-21.

The Saints commenced the second half with a whole new look. A strong defense that worked the entire length of the court and a solid offense allowed them to out-score the Vikings 29-15 in the third quarter, cutting the deficit by more than half.

In the first minute of the final quarter, Alison Huber (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS (Hibbing CC)) hit two clutch three-pointers to bring the Saints within three points of the Vikings. Though, a final 18-0 run from the Vikings that was spread over five minutes of play was enough to bring them to an 82-64 victory over CSS.

Top Performers for the Saints
Huber led the squad with 14 points, while Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) and Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) were close behind with 12 apiece. Emma Schmidt (Alexandria, Minn./Alexandria HS) added six rebounds and five assists.
