Men’s Hockey Begins MIAC Stretch of the Schedule

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The 15th-ranked St. Scholastica men's hockey team will travel to St. Peter to take on Gustavus Adolphus College on Friday, then return home to face Saint John's University on Saturday.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints currently own a seven-game unbeaten streak and are 6-0-1 since the season opening loss.
-That streak is currently is the sixth-longest in NCAA Division III.
-The Saints have yet to trail a second of play this season.
-Last weekend the Saints swept the weekend including a 5-3 win over the fourth ranked Adrian College (Mich.) Friday and a 3-2 win over Trine University (Ind.) Saturday.
-The Saints are ranked 15th in the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com polls.
-Carson Rose (Surrey, British Columbia/Elgin Park Secondary (Weyburn-SJHL)) scored a hat trick in the 5-3 win over Adrian, he now has six goals on the season.
-Rose was named the NCHA Offensive Player of the Week, as well was named to the Dhockey.com Team of the Week
-Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) had two goals in the Saturday's victory over Trine, his third and fourth this season. Jon Hansen (Twig, Minn./Duluth Marshall (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) and Davis Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)) both added two assists on Saturday.
-Ross was also named to the D3hockey.com Team of the Week.
-Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) has started all games in the Saints streak and has totaled a .946 save percentage and a 1.70 GAA.
-Trenciansky continues his strong start to the season, he leads all NCHA goaltenders in save percentage, and is second in GAA. His save percentage ranks fifth in NCAA Division III, among those in the top five he ranks second in total saves with 212, only 2-of-5 have more than 140 saves.
-Rose leads the Saints in goals with six and points with eight.
-Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) has seven points, Jon Hansen (Twig, Minn./Duluth Marshall (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) and Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)) both have six points.
-Golka reached his 50th point of the season with an assist in the Adrian win.
-The Saints have out-scored opponents 10-1 in the first period and have scored first in all eight games.
-The Saints are 4-0-1 at home this season.
 
What You Need to Know about Gustavus Adolphus:
Record: 4-5-1, 2-3-1 MIAC
-Gustavus comes into the weekend tied for fourth place in the MIAC standings.
-The Gusties are 2-3 in their last five games.
-The Gusties are 1-4 on the road this season
-Caleb Anderson leads the team with goals with four and points with nine.
-Toby Sengvongxay also has four goals.
-Evan Erickson has eight points for the Gusties this season with three goals and five assists.
-Chris Amsden has played 7-of-10 games in net for Gustavus, through seven games he owns a 3-3-1 record and a 2.53 GAA to go along with a .898 save percentage.
-Gustavus is 1-4-0 when opponents score first, and 3-1-1 when they get the first tally.
 
Series Record: GAC leads 20-18-1 (Last Meeting: 3-0 CSS – 12/8/2017)
 
Series History: A back and forth series since it began in 1975, Gustavus owns two separate five game win streaks, one in the early 1980s and another in the late 1990s. The Saints longest win streak in this series is their current three-game win streak and an overall four-game unbeaten streak.
 
What You Need to Know about Saint John's:
Record: 5-4-3, 3-2-1 MIAC
-Saint John's comes into the weekend in third place in the MIAC standings.
-The Johnnies finished a five-game home stand that saw them go 1-2-2.
-In fact, the Johnnies have played three straight overtime games, going 0-1-2 in that stretch.
-This will be just their third road game of the season. They are 1-1 in the previous two.
-Kyle Wagner leads the Johnnies with 11 points this year, three goals and eight assists.
-Brady Heppner leads the Johnnies with seven goals and is second with 10 points.
-Andrew Lindgren has played the majority in net for St. Johns, he has totaled a 3-2-2 record with a 2.21 GAA to pair with a .915 save percentage.
-The Johnnies are 0-3-1 when trailing after the first period, they haven't lost when leading after any period.
-Saint John's is 1-3-1 when allowing the first goal and 4-1-2 when scoring first.
