csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team opened conference play with a 74-52 loss against Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior Wednesday night at the Reif Gymnasium.
The Action
Superior (6-1, 1-0 UMAC) was first to score on the night, but the Saints quickly responded with a couple points of their own to take the lead early in the game. St. Scholastica would hold its lead until about five and a half minutes into the first quarter. After that mark, the Saints would struggle with a couple turnovers that the Yellowjackets turned into a 10-0 run. However, before the first quarter ended
Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the Yellowjackets' lead to six, going into the second quarter 19-13.
Within the first minute of quarter two, Walther made another three-pointer to bring the Saints within three points. The small margin was short-lived as UWS would go on an 11-2 run, giving the 'Jackets their first double-digit lead of the night. They would go into halftime leaving the Saints trailing 37-23.
After a scoreless few minutes, the Yellowjackets opened up the second half with a layup to extend their advantage. Towards the end of the third quarter, the Saints pressured the 'Jackets' offense which created the foundation CSS needed to go on an 11-2 run. Though, the Saints still trailed 57-39 going into the final quarter.
In the fourth, the Saints were able to scatter a couple baskets, but they could not overcome the nearly 20-point deficit. Superior took the game 74-52.

Walther led the Saints with 13 points.
Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) contributed 11 points and four assists.

Hannah Norlin had a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds. Eva Reinertsen added 14 points and Taylor Kane added 10 rebounds to the mix.
