SUPERIOR, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team ended its weekend across the bridge at the University of Wisconsin-Superior Shootout Holiday Classic with an 84-57 loss to Concordia College-Moorhead on Sunday afternoon.
The Action
The Cobbers (4-7) bounded out to a hasty 10-2 start over the Saints in the first two and a half minutes of play. While
Alison Huber (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS (Hibbing CC)),
Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS), and
Mariah Pearson (Blaine, Minn./Blaine HS) were each able to respond with a couple points of their own to cut the margin to 12-9, the Cobbers closed the first quarter with a 9-0 run to take a 21-9 advantage going into quarter two.
After an injury to Huber, Kennedy handled the scoring for St. Scholastica with eight points in the first four and half minutes of the second quarter. The rest of the Scholastica squad added 12 more points to the tally, but they were still trailing the Cobbers 40-29 at halftime.
Much of the third quarter consisted of back-and-forth scoring with Concordia going on just slightly larger runs than the Saints. However, those runs allowed the Cobbers to generate a 20-point lead with one quarter left to play. While the Saints were able to scatter baskets throughout the final minutes, the Cobbers' advantage was too significant to overcome. The Saints were defeated 84-57.
