SUPERIOR, Wis. (
csssaints.com) – Sophomore
Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) scored a game-high 21 points, but the St. Scholastica women's basketball team was unable to hand the University of Wisconsin-Stout its first loss of the season falling 78-66 on Saturday in the Superior Shootout Holiday Classic, hosted by UW-Superior.
How it Happened
A
Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) layup followed by a Kennedy 3-pointer gave the Saints an early 5-0 lead. CSS led 11-9 three minutes in, but the Blue Devils (10-0) went on an 18-1 run over the next four minutes and would lead 30-19 after one period. Stout scored 20 of its 30 points in the paint, 10 of which coming off second-chance opportunities.
St. Scholastica got within seven early in the second quarter, but would be out-scored 13-2 the final seven minutes of the quarter and trailed 45-27 at the half.
The Saints got some momentum towards the end of the third quarter, ending on a 7-0 run with five points coming from
Alison Huber (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS (Hibbing CC)) to make it 56-50 after three periods.
However, the Blue Devils drained a 3-pointer on the opening possession of the fourth and the Saints would not get closer than the six-point margin to begin the quarter as Stout prevailed 78-66.
