Men’s Basketball Preps for St. Norbert Tournament

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team will be in De Pere, Wisconsin this weekend taking part in the Nicolet National Bank Holiday Tournament, hosted by St. Norbert College (Wis.).

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints fell at home to the University of Minnesota Morris on Sunday, December 16.
-In the loss, the Saints shot a season-worst 33-percent and allowed the Cougars to attempt 30 free throws.
-The free throws made disparity was 26-9 … that was the largest disparity against the Saints since a loss to the University of Northwestern (Minn.) in the 2014 UMAC Tournament.
-Senior Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) and junior Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) have scored in double figures in every game they have appeared in thus far.
-Newman leads all players in the conference with 54 free throws made
-The Saints rank 17th in NCAA Division III in free throw percentage (.778).
-Anderson leads all players in the UMAC with 3.1, 3-point field goals per game.
-Newman is eight points shy of becoming the sixth player in program history to record at least 1,300 career points.
-The last time CSS had multiple wins over WIAC programs in the same season was 2007-08 when it swept UWS.
 
What You Need to Know about UW-River Falls:
Record: 5-4, 0-0 WIAC
-The Falcons are coming off a four-point overtime loss at Hamline University on Saturday, December 15.
-River Falls has beaten two UMAC programs already this season in UW-Superior and Northwestern, by 20 and 19 points, respectively.
-UWRF lost by 15 to the University of St. Thomas at U.S. Bank Stadium.
-The Falcons rank 16th in NCAA Division III in rebounding margin (+10.7).
-Austin Heidecker has six double-doubles this year, which leads all WIAC players and is the 13th-most nationally.
-Heidecker averages 12.3 rebounds per game, which ranks ninth in the country.
-Matt Keller leads the team in scoring, averaging 17.0 points per game.
-Julian Jackson averages 15.0 points per game.

-The Green Knights enter their tournament on a two-game losing skid after losing to UW-Eau Claire and nationally-ranked UW-Oshkosh.
-Four of their five wins have come in Midwest Conference play.
-St. Norbert lost to the University of Northwestern to open the season.
-The Green Knights are 3-0 at home thus far.
-SNC ranks third in NCAA Division III in free throw percentage (.802).
-The Green Knights rank 17th in the country in scoring defense (63.4 points per game).
-Connor Curtis leads the team, averaging 13.8 points and 7.1 rebounds per game.
-Jared Murphy averages 13.2 points per game off the bench.

-The Scots are winless entering this weekend's tournament.
-However, Alma has played a tough schedule thus far that has featured six nationally-ranked teams, including three top-10 teams.
-Currently, it ranks as the sixth-most difficult schedule in NCAA Division III thus far.
-Alma has played tournaments in St. Louis, Missouri and Mesa, Arizona already this year.
-The Scots allow 92.0 points per game, which is near the bottom of NCAA Division III.
-They lead all teams in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA), averaging 10.2 made 3-pointers per game.
-Kyle Woodruff leads all MIAA with 28 made 3-point field goals.
-Ryan Stevens ranks 15th in NCAA Division III, averaging 6.2 assists per game.
-Freshman Cole Kleiver leads the team in scoring, averaging 15.0 points per game.
