DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was defeated by Augsburg University 71-49 in its final game before conference play Saturday afternoon at the Reif Gymnasium.

The Action
Augsburg (6-1) commenced play with a quick 12-0 run, creating a wide spread for the Saints to try and overcome. Kaylee Kennedy (Littlefork, Minn./Littlefork-Big Falls HS) had a strong start to the night as she would produce nine of St. Scholastica's 11 points in the first quarter. However, the Auggies continued to add to their lead, so the Saints were only able to come within 13 before heading into the second quarter. Augsburg only stepped up their level of play in quarter two, leaving the Saints trailing 46-20 going into halftime.

Knowing they had some work to do, the Saints began the second half chipping away at the Auggies lead. Tough defense allowed the Saints a 13-2 run near the end of the third quarter. In the fourth, the squad opened with a 9-3 run, but it was not enough to defeat the more than 20-point deficit that Augsburg had created. Augsburg went on the win the game 71-49.
