Men’s Hockey has First Two Home Games this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team will have its home opener Friday night when it welcomes Concordia University Wisconsin to Mars Lakeview Arena. The Saints will then face the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) on Saturday.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints split their first weekend of the season as they traveled to Illinois for a pair of conference games.
-The Saints lost their opener to Aurora University 4-3 in overtime, where they led by two goals in the final three minutes.
-The loss to Aurora was the first in a NCHA opener since the 2015-2016 season when they lost in similar fashion to Lake Forest 4-3 in overtime.
-In Saturday's game the Saints were able to hold on and took down Lake Forest College 3-1.
-In the win over Lake Forest, first year Head Coach Tim Madsen picked up his first collegiate win behind the bench for St. Scholastica
-Sophomore goalies Forbes Ploszaj (Scottsdale, Arizona/Gilbert HS (Aberdeen-NAHL)) and Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) got the starts over the weekend. Ploszaj picked up 23 saves on 27 opportunities in the 4-3 opener loss. Trenciansky stole the show on Saturday putting up a 35-save performance (career high) en route to a 3-1 win.
-Junior Kyle Star (Langley, British Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) led the Saints in points for the weekend picking up three assists in the season opener against Aurora
-Senior Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) picked two goals over the weekend, (one in each game) the only multi-goal weekend for the team.
-Golka is four points shy of 50 for his career.
-Freshman Michael Talbot (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS (Minot-NAHL)) netted his first collegiate goal in the win over the Foresters.
-Freshman Sam Fuss (Edina, Minn./Edina HS (Minot-NAHL)) picked up his first career points with a two-assist weekend.
-The Saints went 1-for-10 on the power play over the weekend, and 8-9 on the penalty kill.
-St. Scholastica went 9-2-0 at Mars Lakeview Arena last season
 
What You Need to Know about Concordia Wisconsin:
Record: 0-3-1, 0-1-1 NCHA
-So far on the 2018-2019 season the Falcons are winless, though they forced No. 3 ranked St. Norbert College to overtime but fell 3-2. They also tied against NCHA foe Finlandia 1-1.
-Concordia in 2017-2018 finished 12-6-0 in conference play which was good for third overall in NCHA standings.
-Sophomore Nick Guerra leads the Falcons in goals (2) and points (3). Junior Dante Hahn also has three points with three assists.
-Five different Falcons have recorded goals this season.
-So far Dakota Belbridge and Bo Didur have started two games for the Falcons. Delbridge though has only allowed four goals on 66 shots (.939SV%) good for a 1.86 GAA. Didur has allowed nine goals on 68 shots (.868 SV%) for a 4.55 GAA
-The Falcons have converted on 2-of-14 power play opportunities thus far.
-On the penalty kill they have given up two goals on nine tries.
-The Spartans were 7-4-1 on the road last season.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 7-3-2 (Last Meeting: 3-2 CSS – 1/12/2018)
 
Series History: Through the first six meetings between these two teams the Saints went 4-0-2, including 0-0-2 in the first weekend they met in 2013. Since the first six meetings, the series is 3-3 in the last six. CSS is 6-1 all-time at Mars Lakeview against the Falcons.
 
What You Need to Know about MSOE:
Record: 1-3-0, 1-1-0 NCHA
-In non-conference games to start the season MSOE went 0-2 losing by a combined score of 8-1, including a 5-0 defeat to conference rival St. Norbert 5-0 (game didn't count in conference play).
-When it did count a weekend ago, they dropped their first game to Finlandia University 4-3 on Friday. However, on Saturday they were able to turn the tables on St. Norbert and upset the Green Knights 3-2 in overtime.
-Rock Boynton started all four games for MSOE allowing 14 goals on 134 shots (.896 SV%).
-Six different players have picked up goals for MSOE, and sophomore Garrett Gintoli is the only one with multiple goals and leads the team with two goals.
-Five MSOE skaters have two points.
-Last season MSOE was 7-10-1 in conference action, and finished eighth overall in the conference.
-The Raiders were 3-7-2 away from Milwaukee last season.
-MSOE is guided by first-year head coach Graham Johnson.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 9-2-1 (Last Meeting: 3-2 CSS – 1/13/2018)
 
Series History: The Saints walked through the first seven meetings between the two teams. Since the end of the Saints win streak in 2016, when the Raiders were ranked No. 15 in the country, the series is 2-2-1 in the last five meetings. CSS is also 6-1 at home against the Raiders all-time.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will have 10 days off after Saturday's meeting with MSOE and will play Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior on Tuesday, November 20 in a non-conference matchup at Mars Lakeview. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
