DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica men's hockey team defeated fourth-ranked Adrian College (Mich.) 5-3 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action Friday night after scoring two power-play goals during a five-minute major on Adrian late in the second period.

First Period
The Saints got on the board early, just 41 seconds into the game Carson Rose (Surrey, British Columbia/Elgin Park Secondary (Weyburn-SJHL)) scored the first goal to give the Saints a 1-0 lead. Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) and Parker Mismash (Edina, Minn./Edina HS (Minnesota Magicians-NAHL)) were credited with the assists.

But just 16 seconds later, the Bulldogs (8-3-0, 5-2-0 NCHA) tied the game. The Saints then had to go on the penalty kill twice and were able to do both successfully. And with 11:06 left of the clock, Rose scored his second of the game to restore CSS' lead and make it 2-1.

Second Period
Five minutes into the period, the Saints gave up a pair of penalties so they were two skaters down for the entire two minutes. CSS was almost able to kill it successfully, but Adrian scored as the two players were coming out of the box, tying the game once again.

With 5:49 left on the clock, Adrian committed a five-minute major for a hit to the head. One minute and 20 seconds later, Adrian got another penalty, this time for charging the goalie, to put the Saints on a 5-on-3 power play.

Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) took advantage and scored for the Saints with the two skater advantage to make it 3-2 with 3:13 to play. Michael Talbot (Anoka, Minn./Anoka HS (Minot-NAHL)) and Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)) had the assists on the goal. Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) added a second for the Saints on the power play 30 seconds later, to give CSS a 4-2 lead.

Third Period
Adrian piled on the pressure in the third, and finally got the reward after scoring a power play goal with 5:07 left in the game.

The Bulldogs pulled their goalie in search of an equalizer, but the Saints were able to take advantage of the empty net after Rose, who just blocked a shot, took the puck down and scored his third of the night to make it 5-3 in favor of CSS.
