Men’s Basketball Heads to Eau Claire Saturday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team will be on the road Saturday for a non-conference tilt against the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-CSS is coming off its first win of the year, a 72-56 victory over Concordia College-Moorhead on Monday.
-The Saints trailed by eight in the final 10 minutes, only to out-score the Cobbers 28-4 over the final eight minutes.
-The Saints won despite being without junior guard Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) and sophomore forward Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS).
-Freshman guard Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) just missed recording a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.
-Senior Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) made it four straight games in double-figures with 16 points.
-Newman also went over 1,200 career points on Monday and is two made free throws shy of becoming the third Saint in program history to make at least 300 free throws in a career.
-CSS leads all UMAC teams averaging 9.3 made 3-pointers per game and rank 16th in NCAA Division III making 44-percent of those 3-pointers.
-The Saints also rank fifth nationally, making 81-percent of their free throw attempts.
 
What You Need to Know about UW-Eau Claire:
Record: 4-1, 0-0 WIAC
-The Blugolds are coming off two straight road wins over UMAC opponents, most recently a 68-56 victory at the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Wednesday.
-The lone loss on the year came against Bethel University in mid-November.
-Cole Robedeaux averages a team-best 15.2 points per game.
-Ben Widdes averages 13.8 points and a team-best 5.4 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
-He also leads the conference with 13 steals.
-Widdes is also 15-for-15 from the free throw line thus far.
 
Series Record: UWEC leads 17-0 (Last Meeting: 75-74 UWEC – 11/30/2017)
 
Series History: The best chance the Saints had to knock off the Blugolds was last year in Duluth when Eau Claire needed a buzzer-beater to win 75-74.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints begin Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play when they host Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior next Wednesday.
