ST. PAUL, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team lost to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) foe St. Thomas 98-72 Tuesday.
How it Happened
The Saints jumped out to a quick 5-2 lead over St. Thomas (2-1) in the first two minutes of the game on a
Sam Thompson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) 3-pointer and a pair of
Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) free throws. The St. Thomas 3-point attack was too much to handle from that point on. The Tommies went on a 17-2 run over the next five minutes behind three Nelson Anders 3-pointers. CSS showed some battle behind strong shooting from
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS), but went in to halftime down 50-28.
St. Scholastica came out of the half with some fire behind a layup and a pair of free throws from
Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS). The Saints cut the St. Thomas lead down to 11 with 11 minutes remaining. Anderson had nine straight points to lead the CSS comeback. UST put a halt to the comeback, going on a five-minute, 13-2 run. The Saints were unable to claw their way back, with the game ending in a 98-72 St. Thomas victory.
