ST. PETER, Minn. – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team fell behind in the first period and could not recover in a 4-1 loss to No. 9 Gustavus Adolphus College Tuesday night.
How it Happened
After the Saints failed to convert on the power-play in the opening period, the Gusties (5-1-1) were able to take advantage of a power-play chance of their own with under nine minutes to go in the period to make it 1-0. Gustavus added another even-strength goal with 2:15 remaining in the first to make it 2-0 at the intermission.
CSS went on another power-play midway through the second period, but that would backfire as Gustavus added a short-handed goal to extend the lead to 3-0.
The Saints would get on the board in the third period as
Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) scored her team-best fifth goal of the season to make it 3-1.
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) and
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) had the assists.
Gustavus added an empty-netter late to make the final 4-1.
Goaltending
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) made 20 saves in the loss for the Saints. Amanda DiNella had 12 saves in the victory for the Gusties.
