Cordeiro’s Two Goals leads Men’s Hockey over Rival UWS

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team defeated Bridge Rival University of Wisconsin-Superior 3-1 on Tuesday night at Mars Lakeview Arena.
 
The Scoring
The Saints opened the scoring with 12:25 left on the clock after Dustin Cordeiro (Kitchener, Ontario/Elliot Lake Secondary School (Cochrane-NOJHL)) scored a goal assisted by Jon Hansen (Twig, Minn./Duluth Marshall (Minnesota Mullets-USPHL)) and Nolan Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)).
 
The second period would feature seven penalties between the two squads. The Saints were able to double their advantage with 10 seconds left in the period with a power-play goal by Sam Fuss (Edina, Minn./Edina HS (Minot-NAHL)). Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)) and Kyle Star (Langley, British Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) were credited with the assist.
 
It took just two minutes for CSS to add another in the third. Cordeiro scored his second goal of the night to make it 3-0 in favor of the Saints. UWS (2-6-1) was able to pull one back with 10:03 left on the clock, and went on the power play with 1:48 left on the clock, but were unable to capitalize. The game finished 3-1 to CSS.  
 
Notable Performances for CSS
Cordeiro led with two goals. Cordeiro and Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) both led the Saints in SOG with four.
 
Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) saved 32 of the 33 shots he faced in net for CSS.
 
Notable Performances for the Opponent
Andrew Durham scored UWS' only goal of the game. Chad Lopez was credited with the assist.
 
A.J. Smith saved 30 of 33 in net for UWS.

The Saints (3-1-1) return to action next Tuesday when they travel to St. Paul for a non-conference matchup against Hamline University. Puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
