Men’s Basketball Travels to St. Thomas Tuesday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's basketball team is back on the court and back on the road Tuesday to face the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints began their season at the Loras College (Iowa) Tip-Off Classic over the weekend.
-CSS dropped a heartbreaker against the host Loras on Friday night, losing on a desperation buzzer-beater.
-The late night Friday night may have lingered into Saturday, as the Saints fell to the University of Dubuque 86-75.
-Freshman Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) was impressive in his collegiate debut over the weekend, averaging a team-best 18.5 points per game and shooting 67 percent from the floor.
-Junior Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) and senior Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) each averaged 18.0 points per game over the weekend.
-Anderson had a big second half on Friday night vs. Loras and put the Saints in position for the win with a 3-pointer late.
-Anderson was named to the Loras Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament team.
-Newman along with sophomore Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) averaged a team-best 6.0 rebounds per game.
-The Saints won a program-best nine games on the road last season (9-1).
 
What You Need to Know about St. Thomas:
Record: 1-1, 0-0 MIAC
-The Tommies went out East where they lost in the waning second against Brooklyn College (N.Y.) on Thursday and then defeated Emerson College (Mass.) on Saturday.
-Freshman Anders Nelson led the team averaging 16.5 points per game last week.
-Senior guard Michael Hannon averaged 11.5 points per game.
-St. Thomas returns four starters from last year's squad.
-Burt Hedstrom and Ryan Lindberg earned All-MIAC honors as freshmen last season.
-Hedstrom led the team with 6.5 rebounds per game in the team's first two games.
-The Tommies are picked to finish fourth in the MIAC preseason poll, receiving one first-place vote.

Series History: The teams have played the last two seasons, both resulting in convincing Tommie victories … The closest margin has been a six-point St. Thomas win in 2006.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will have their home opener on Monday, November 26 when they welcome Concordia College-Moorhead to the Reif.
