Men’s Basketball Drops Exhibition Game to UMD

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica men's basketball team was defeated 116-68 by the University of Minnesota Duluth in an exhibition game at Romano Gymnasium on Saturday.
 
First Half
Brandon Myer opened the scoring off a jumper, before Brandon Newman (Barnum, Minn./Barnum HS) made a 3-pointer to give the Saints the lead. UMD responded with another jumper and would hold the lead for the rest of the game.
 
Midway through the half, CSS were holding the Bulldogs within 10 points, but by the end of the half UMD had increased its lead to 32 points, making it 61-29 heading into the second half. Jarod Wilken (Annandale, Minn./Annandale HS) led the Saints in scoring in the first half with eight points.
 
Second Half
Quinn Fischer (Esko, Minn./Esko HS) made a layup to open the second half, cutting into UMD's lead. UMD responded with a layup with its own and would maintain a healthy margin for the rest of the half.
 
The final score was 116-68 in favor of the Bulldogs.
 
Top Performances for CSS
Fischer and Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) led the Saints in scoring with 13 points each. Anderson also had two steals. Wilken put up 11 and had two blocks.
 
Top Performances for the Opponent
Logan Rohrscheib led the Bulldogs in scoring with 22 points. Brandon Myer finished the game with 19 points and two blocks.
 
Up Next
The Saints travel to Dubuque, Iowa next weekend to open their season for real at the Loras College Tournament. CSS opens the tournament at 8 p.m. Friday with a game against host Loras. They wrap up the tournament on Saturday with a game against the University of Dubuque starting at 2 p.m.
