DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica volleyball team (8-14, 6-6 UMAC) swept Northland College on Wednesday night at Reif Gymnasium.

How it Happened
The Saints put their offense to work immediately in the first set to jump out to a 6-0 lead against Northland (3-19, 2-9 UMAC).  The LumberJills were able to stick with St. Scholastica until mid-set, when the Saints went on a 4-0 run led by kills from Emily Udermann (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount HS) and Sofia Rajala (Deer River, Minn./Greenway HS), as well as an ace from Kelsi Rippberger (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Robbinsdale Armstrong HS).  Northland would not come within five for the remainder of the set, allowing the Saints to win 25-18.

Set two started with a couple more rallies produced from the Saints hitting line to give them an initial 10-2 advantage.  As play continued, the LumberJills' defense was no match for the power behind St. Scholastica's offense, ultimately giving the Saints a 25-13 second set.

A battle for points early in the third set looked promising for the LumberJills, but three kills from Brooke Schermann (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Totino-Grace HS) opened what would turn into a 21-3 run to grant the Saints the sweep.

Top Performers
Schermann led the match with 16 kills and a .464 hitting percentage.  Espi Austvold (Spicer, Minn./New London-Spicer HS) ended with a team-high 12 digs as well as 15 assists.  Rippberger led the team in assists with 20.  Bounds also tallied four aces on the night.
