Women’s Soccer Preps for Busy Week

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team will play three games in five days this week, all away from Duluth.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-The Saints extended their shutout, but it in a scoreless draw with conference rival University of Northwestern (Minn.) on Saturday.
-CSS has not allowed a goal in the last 466 minutes.
-For the second straight week, goalkeeper Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) was named the UMAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week. Rudolph has not allowed goal since September 8 at Concordia College-Moorhead.
-Junior Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS) remains two points shy of 50 for her career.
-Freshman Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) ranks sixth in NCAA Division III, averaging 7.3 shots per game.
 
What You Need to Know about UW-Superior:
Record: 2-6-1, 2-3-0 UMAC
-The Yellowjackets are coming off a 2-1 loss to Bethany Lutheran College after defeating the Vikings 2-1 three days earlier.
-Each of Superior's last four results have been 2-1 scores.
-Sarah Fjeran leads the team with three goals.
-Annah Schussman has a team-high four assists.
-The Yellowjackets have split time between Madison Gutekunst and Morgan Philiber in goal.
-Gutekunst ranks third in the conference with a .813 save percentage.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 14-0-0 (Last Meeting: 5-0 CSS – 9/15/2018)
 
Series History: The Saints have defeated the Yellowjackets 5-0 in each of the last two meetings, including earlier this season at Saints Field … Morgan Friday (Duluth, Minn./Shattuck St. Mary's HS) and Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) each scored twice in the win.
 
What You Need to Know about Macalester:
Record: 1-5-2, 0-3-2 MIAC
-The Scots' lone win this season came at Luther College (Iowa) by a 2-1 score. Luther played the Saints to a scoreless draw at the beginning of the season.
-Macalester also tied Concordia College, a team the Saints lost to.
-The Scots rank at the bottom of the MIAC in scoring offense (1.0) and goals-against-average (2.1).
-They have scored only six goals this season, by six different players. The Luther win was the only time the Scots scored more than one goal in a game.
 
Series Record: MAC leads 9-2-1 (Last Meeting: 2-2 Tie – 10/16/2017)
 
Series History: CSS is 0-7 all-time at Macalester … Last year, the Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first 18 minutes only to see the Scots score two in the second half to end the game in a 2-2 tie. 
 
What You Need to Know about Martin Luther:
Record: 1-8-0, 1-3-0 UMAC
-The Knights host North Central University (Minn.) and Hamline University before facing the Saints Saturday.
-Saturday's contest will be the third of a three-game home stand for MLC.
-Martin Luther's lone win to this point was a 3-1 decision over Bethany Lutheran on September 15.
-Goalkeeper Mollie Fischer ranks fifth in NCAA Division III with 121 saves.
-Avery Broyles leads the team with three goals.
 
Series Record: CSS leads 30-10-5 (Last Meeting: 4-0 CSS – 9/22/2018)
 
Series History: The Saints have shut out the Knights in each of the last 12 meetings … CSS defeated MLC 4-0 two weeks ago at Saints Field with Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) scoring twice … The last time the Saints visited Martin Luther, the game ended in a scoreless draw in 2016.   
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints will be back at home on Wednesday, October 10 to face Northland College.
