Women’s Basketball Hopes to Extend Win Streak this Week

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's basketball team will take a three-game win streak on the road Wednesday at Finlandia University (Mich.) and then returns home to face Crown College on Saturday.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-Head Coach Stacy Deadrick won her 300th game on Saturday against the University of Northwestern (Minn.).
-Deadrick is only the fifth CSS coach in school history to reach 300 career wins; Head Women's Tennis Coach Wells Patten, Volleyball's Dana Moore, former softball coach Jen Walter and former baseball coach John Baggs are the others.
-St. Scholastica committed a season-low 10 turnovers in Saturday's win.
-The Saints have won three consecutive games for the first time this season and is the first such streak since the 2014-15 season.
-Guards Rashonna Thomas (Minneapolis, Minn./Columbia Heights HS (Anoka-Ramsey CC)) and Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) have scored in double-figures in each of the three wins.
-CSS is 4-1 when they both score 10 or more points.
-The Saints are 5-0 this season when Holly VanKempen (Elbow Lake, Minn./West Central HS) grabs at least six rebounds in a game.
-CSS is 6-1 when it records at least seven 3-point field goals in a game.
-The Saints rank second in the UMAC with a .296 3-point field goal percentage and 40 3-pointers in league games.
-CSS is tied for the conference lead with 27 blocked shots in UMAC play.
-VanKempen is tied with a conference-high 23 blocked shots.
-She is four blocks shy of moving into second place all-time on the program's career block list.
 
What You Need to Know about Finlandia:
-The Lions enter Wednesday's game with a 3-12 overall record.
-Finlandia has won two of its last three games, including a three-point win at Olivet College (Mich.) last Thursday.
-The Lions have only played once at home and that was a loss against the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in early December.
-One of Finlandia's victories was a two-point decision over Northland College.
-Julia Daavettila leads the team in scoring at 13.7 points per game.
-Kelsie Richards averages 10.1 points per game and a team-best 8.7 rebounds per contest.
-Richards has also recorded 22 blocks on the year.
-Finlandia is ranked near the bottom of NCAA Division III in scoring defense, allowing 79.2 points per game.
-The Lions are guided by former St. Scholastica assistant (1998-99) John Motherwell in his first season.

-The Storm will host Bethany Lutheran College on Wednesday before facing the Saints on Saturday.
-The Storm are currently 6-7 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
-Crown won just one game a season ago and have not won at least six games in a season since 2005-06.
-Crown leads the UMAC in 3-point field goal percentage defense (.260) and averages a league-high 11 steals per game.
-Desiree Davis leads the team in scoring at 16.9 points per game and rebounding at 7.1 rebounds per game.
-Davis leads the UMAC with 4.2 steals per game and ranks in the top 10 in NCAA Division III in that category.
-Andrea Besa is third in the conference with a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
