DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team tied 2-2 with eighth-ranked University of St. Thomas Saturday evening at Mars Lakeview Arena, after a late third period goal for the Saints. It is the fourth tie in the last six games for St. Scholastica.

The Action
The first period ended scoreless with the Tommies (8-3-2) out-shooting the Saints 8-6.

St. Thomas would record 21 shots on net in the second period and finally broke when a CSS miscue put the puck in the net midway through the period, putting the score at 1-0.

St. Thomas kept the puck down in the Saints' zone for the next eight minutes until a minor penalty was called on the Tommies for hooking. St. Scholastica took full advantage of this powerplay. Seconds later, Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS), with the assists from Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) and Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS), scored. Broman's goal tied the score at 1-1 and this score carried over into the third period.

To start the third period. Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) hit the pipe for the Saints and the Tommies countered a little later with goal five minutes into the period bringing the score to 2-1.

The Tommies held on tight to their lead until there was only three minutes left in the game. With this little time left, another penalty was called on St. Thomas for hooking. 12 seconds later, Hamann and Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) assisted to Nundahl to score a power play goal and tie up the game again with less than three minutes left in regulation. Now at 2-2, both teams were unable to score before the end of the third period, and the game went into overtime.

In overtime, St. Thomas struck a pipe and out-shot the Saints 3-1, but were unable to score and the game ended at 2-2.

Notable Performances
Six players had three shots on goal: Broman, Nundahl, Johnson, Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)), Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS), and Denisa Lalikova (Puchov, Slovakia/Proctor Academy, N.H.).

For goaltending, St. Scholastica's Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) saved 42 out of 44 shots she faced. St. Thomas' Kenzie Torpy stopped 19 out of 21 shots.
