NEW ULM, Minn. (
csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's basketball team defeated Martin Luther College by a score of 86-62 on Wednesday in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play.
First Half
The Saints started the half strongly, earning an 11-point lead four minutes into the action. The Saints would retain at least an 8-point lead for the rest of the half. CSS went into halftime with a 41-33 lead over the Knights (1-11, 1-4 UMAC).
The Knights gave up three turnovers in the first half while the Saints had one. 21 of the 41 points that CSS earned in the half came from 3-pointers.
Sam Thompson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) shot 3-of-7 behind the arc for the Saints.
Second Half
Midway through the second half, the Saints started to pull away from Martin Luther. With just under 10 minutes remaining, CSS had earned a 21-point lead.
The Knights were able to cut the lead to 19 after a pair of free throws before
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) responded for the Saints by making both of his free throws.
Dylan Zimmerman (Elmdale, Minn./Upsala HS) then made a layup and
Nate Weets (Cloquet, Minn./Cloquet HS) and
Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) both made three-pointers to give the Saints a 29-point led, their largest of the game.
The game finished 86-62 in favor of the Saints.
