DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's hockey team scored three goals in in the third period to thwart Hamline University 4-3 Wednesday night at Mars Lakeview Arena. The Saints are unbeaten in the last eight games against the Pipers.

The Action
In the first period, both teams were evenly matched. Nolan Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)) shot first for the Saints, but the puck was saved by the Hamline goaltender.

13 minutes into the period, Hamline (3-7-1) scored on an open net. With the score now at 1-0, the Saints fought hard to tie up the game before going into the second, but were unable to.

Four minutes into the second period, the Pipers scored their second goal of the game. Down 2-0, the Saints fought hard to make a comeback. Eight minutes later, Kyle Star (Langley, British, Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) and Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) assisted to Davis Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)). D. Ross' goal put the Saints on the board 2-1 and started the rally that would occur in the third.

The third period started with an early goal from Golka, with the assists from Star and Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)), to tie up the game at 2-2. CSS had all the momentum until it committed back-to-back five-minute major penalties. The Pipers would have one minute and 34 seconds of a 5-on-3, but managed onyl three shots on goal during that time frame. After the Saints returned one of the majors, Sam Williams (Winnipeg, Manitoba/River East Collegiate (Melville-SJHL)) broke in on a delayed penalty and scored an impressive short handed goal for CSS. Williams' first goal of the season gave CSS the lead at 3-2.

Two minutes later, the Pipers killed St. Scholastica's lead and tied the game with another goal. Now at 3-3, both evenly matched teams fought for a late goal to solidify the win.

A major penalty was called on Hamline for boarding, giving CSS a power play for five minutes. CSS made quick work of this opportunity, as D. Ross, assisted by Jordan Fralich (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Marshall School (Bismarck-NAHL)), scored the game winning goal. D. Ross' fifth goal of the season set the score at 4-3, giving St. Scholastica the win.

Notable Performances
Brothers D. Ross and Nolan Ross (Fort Frances, Ontario/Fort Frances HS (Fort Frances-SIJHL)) has six shots on goal each. Williams had three, a season high.

CSS goaltender Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) stopped 26 out of 29 shots he faced to improve to 4-1 on the year. Hamline goaltender Lance Knudson stopped 27 out of 31 shots.
