DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's basketball team defeated the University of Minnesota Morris 82-73 on Saturday after the Saints lost the previous matchup against Morris 72-66 earlier in the season.

First Half
The teams were evenly matched to start the game. Dylan Zimmerman (Elmdale, Minn./Upsala HS) got the Saints on the board first with a layup, but the Cougars answered right away and it was a close back-and-forth battle for the first five minutes of the game. The Saints then went on a run of 11 consecutive points before UMM finally got one back. That gave CSS a 20-7 point advantage that the Cougars would struggle to shrink for the entirety of the first half. The scoring saw a lull in the middle of the half, with only six points being scored in nearly four full minutes - four from the Cougars and two from CSS. This dry spell saw 10 missed shots between the teams and two turnovers committed by the Cougars. Six unanswered points from CSS got things moving again and put them up by nearly 20 points with a score of 37-21 with four minutes left before halftime. As time expired in the first half, the Saints held their comfortable lead and headed to the locker room with the score standing at 42-27.

Second Half
The Cougars came out harder in the second half and fought to get back into the game. The first three and a half minutes of the second saw UMM outscoring the Saints 12-5 to get within 9 points of the lead at 47-38. From there, Morris continued to close the gap until they were within two points at a score of 50-52 with just over 12 minutes to play. CSS got back in gear thanks to a layup from Collin Anderson (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) to start things off. Four baskets later and the Saints held a 10 point lead once again. That's about where it stayed for the rest of the time. The teams were evenly match through the last 10 minutes and the game ended with a final score of 82-73 in favor of the Saints.

Notable Performances
For the Saints, Anderson led the way on offense with 19 points and contributed three steals to the defense. Joe Stark (Hayward, Wis./Hayward HS) was just behind him with a season high 16 points. Sam Thompson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) had 14 points, as did Zimmerman, which was a season high for him. Zimmerman went 7-11 from the field and also pulled in 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

On the Cougars side, Noah Grove led the team with 20 points and seven rebounds. CD Douglas followed Grove with 18 points. Jeremy Halverson had seven rebounds.
