MANKATO, Minn. (
csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica women's basketball team was unable to overcome a first half deficit and fell to Bethany Lutheran College by a score of 85-60 on Saturday.
First Quarter
The Vikings (14-4, 7-2 UMAC) opened the scoring with a layup, but
Rashonna Thomas (Minneapolis, Minn./Columbia Heights HS (Anoka-Ramsey CC)) added a 3-pointer for the Saints soon after to take the lead. Bethany regained their lead with a layup before Emilia Miner added a 3-pointer for the Saints.
Bethany took the lead soon after until a layup by
Chelsea Swatek (Cromwell, Minn./Cromwell HS) leveled the score at 10-10. The Vikings then closed the quarter scoring 12 of the final 15 points to lead 22-13.
Vikings Start to Pull Ahead
The game got away from St. Scholastica in the second quarter. The only two made field goals by the Saints in the quarter were a pair of
Michala Walther (Roseville, Minn./Concordia Academy) 3-pointers. Otherwise, CSS went without a field goal for the final 5:45 of the first half. In the meantime Bethany Lutheran went on a 14-4 run and led 40-23 at the half.
CSS scored the first points of the second half, but that was as close as it got as the Vikings pulled away in the second half to win 85-60.

Walther and Thomas both led the Saints in scoring with 13 points.
