Men’s Hockey Back to NCHA Play this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – From its last conference game on December 2, the St. Scholastica men's hockey team won six straight non-league games and hopes to carry that momentum into this weekend when it's back in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action against Concordia University Wisconsin and the Milwaukee School of Engineering.

What You Need to Know about the Saints:
-CSS won its sixth straight game with a 5-1 victory over Bethel University on Tuesday.
-That marked the first time in program history the Saints finished with a perfect record against the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) – 5-0-0.
-The seven-game unbeaten streak for the Saints is tied for the fourth-longest current streak in NCAA Division III.
-CSS is 9-2 when it records a power-play goal, which it has done in each of the last six games.
-The Saints have not allowed a power-play goal for a season-high three consecutive games.
-St. Scholastica has accumulated 331 penalty minutes this season after only having 313 minutes all of last season.
-The Saints lead NCAA Division III in penalty minutes per game (22.1).
-Junior forward Cole Golka (Ardrossan, Alberta/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Dryden Ice Dogs-SIJHL)) has scored a goal in three straight games.
-Sophomore forward Kyle Star (Langley, British, Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) has five assists in the last two games.
-Star leads the team with 10 assists and 13 points.
-Freshman forward Nate Pionk (Hermantown, Minn./Hermantown HS (Minot-NAHL)) has at least one assist in each of the last four games he has appeared in.
-Pionk ranks third among NCHA freshmen with 11 points.
-Goaltenders Forbes Ploszaj (Gilbert, Arizona/Gilbert HS (Aberdeen-NAHL)) and Nick Trenciansky (Vancouver, British Columbia/Holy Cross Regional HS (Kindersley-SJHL)) rank in the top eight in the conference in goals-against-average.
-Trenciansky has the fourth-best save percentage (.933) in the NCHA).
-This weekend will be the final non-divisional conference games of the season for the Saints.
 
What You Need to Know about Concordia Wisconsin:
-The Falcons enter Friday's contest with a 9-4-2 overall record and 5-3-0 in NCHA action.
-Concordia is currently tied for second in the NCHA South Division.
-Concordia is coming off a 4-3 overtime victory over Lawrence University (Wis.) on Saturday.
-CUW has been outscored 18-17 in its six road games.
-Braydon Barker ranks second among conference freshmen and defensemen with 14 points.
-Sophomore Dante Hahn leads the team with seven goals and 15 points.
-Both Adam Fauchoux and Brody Decker have three short-handed points, which ranks at the top of the NCHA.
-Junior Nick Malvin has started 10 games in goal and has six wins and a 2.63 goals-against-average.
-Fellow junior Jack Romanuik has started five games and has two shutouts and a .931 save percentage.
-The Falcons are 4-1 in one-goal games and are 5-0-1 when scoring the first goal.

-The Raiders enter the weekend with an 8-6-1 overall record and a 4-4-0 NCHA record.
-MSOE will face Northland College on Friday before taking on the Saints on Saturday.
-MSOE is fourth in the NCHA South Division.
-The Raiders have lost two straight since defeating top-ranked St. Norbert College (Wis.) and have only one win in the last five games.
-Seniors Brett Wagner and James Ring, along with freshman Garrett Gintoli, pace the team with 10 points.
-Wagner has a team-high five goals, while Rings leads the squad with nine assists.
-Senior goaltender Zach Woodman ranks sixth in the nation with a .942 save percentage.
-The Raiders have the second-most penalty minutes in the country at 21.3 per game.
-The Raiders are 6-0-1 when they score the first goal.

Series History: St. Scholastica is 1-2-1 in the last four games against the Raiders, which includes a 4-1 loss earlier this season in Milwaukee … That game featured a program record 106 penalty minutes by the Saints and a combined 197 penalty minutes between the two teams … All four MSOE goals were scored on the power-play … CSS is 5-1 all-time at home against the Raiders.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints remain at home next weekend for NCHA games against Finlandia University (Mich.) and St. Norbert College (Wis.).
