SUPERIOR, Wis. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team was defeated by the University of Wisconsin-Superior 6-3 Wednesday night in non-conference action.

First Period
The Saints struggled early as UWS (11-4-0) quickly scored two goals. The first goal of the period came 17 seconds into the game, and the second came five minutes into the period. The 'jackets led 2-0 going into the second.

Action-Packed Second
UWS scored four minutes into second to extend its lead to 3-0. CSS got on the board when Denisa Lalikova (Puchov, Slovakia/Proctor Academy, N.H.) powered through and assisted to Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS). Sawyer's sixth goal of the season finally put the Saints on the board 3-1.

Midway through the second period, Superior scored again, extending its lead to 4-1. Superior kept this nice lead until a penalty was called with three minutes for too many players on the ice.

13 seconds later, Sawyer and Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) assisted Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) for a power play goal to make it 4-2. Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS) kept this momentum going by scoring 16 seconds later. Anderson's first goal of her collegiate career weakened Superior's lead to 4-3.

St. Scholastica tried to hold on to the one-goal deficit until the third, but with 40 seconds left, Superior was able to score to make it 5-3 going into the third.

Third Period
With over 11 minutes remaining, the Yellowjackets strengthened their lead by scoring another goal, putting the score at 6-3. That was the final goal of the game as the 'jackets took the first part of the Bridge Battle 6-3.

Notable Performances
Anderson had five shots on goal, a season high. Johnson also had five shots on goal. Sawyer and Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) each had three.

For goaltending, St. Scholastica's Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) stopped 28 out of 33 in the first two periods. In the third period, the Saints put Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) in, who blocked 17 of 18 shots.
