Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Stunned Late at Luther

Notables
-CSS' first loss when having a two-goal lead since November 8, 2004.
-Fifth career multi-goal game for Rancour
-Second meeting between the two programs (Luther: 2-0)

DECORAH, Iowa (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening 20 minutes, but surrendered three goals in the final 25 minutes, including the game winner at the end of regulation as Luther College (Iowa) prevailed 3-2 Friday night.

The Action
The Saints got off to a fast start on the road and it was sophomore Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) leading the charge. Rancour put CSS on the board in the 12th minute thanks to assists from Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) and Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS).

Six minutes later, it was Rancour again putting the ball just under the cross bar from out in front to make it 2-0 St. Scholastica.

The first 45 minutes was all CSS, outshooting the Norse 8-0. Unfortunately, soccer is a 90-minute contest and the second 45-minute segment was all Luther, specifically the final 30 minutes. The Norse outshot the Saints 15-2 in the second half. The two shots for St. Scholastica took place in the first five minutes of the second half.

The Norse got their first goal in the 67th minute on an Ellie Schmid tally. Less than four minutes later Marta Springer scored the equalizer to make it 2-2.

Then when it looked like the game was headed to overtime, Luther scored in the final 90 seconds off a rebound with the goal credited to Maggie Anderson to give the Norse the 3-2 victory.

Notable Performances
Rancour registered her fifth career multi-goal game. Rouillard recorded three shots on goal. Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) had six saves in the loss.

Ellie Schmid had four shots on goal with one goal and one assist. Kennedy Bergren had saves in the victory for the Norse (3-1).

Up Next
The Saints (0-2-1) are in action on Sunday in the Twin Cities when they face off against the University of St. Thomas at 1 p.m.
