Women's Soccer Shut Out by St. Thomas

ST. PAUL (csssaints.com) -- The St. Scholastica women's soccer team was defeated by the University of St. Thomas 4-0 Sunday at South Field.

First Half
In the first half, both teams were evenly matched. The first shot on goal came from St. Thomas at the five minute mark, which was saved by CSS. Three minutes later, Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) would almost get a shot on goal for the Saints by hitting the crossbar.

Both UST and the Saints would continue to break even through this first half. The Tommies would have a few opportunities to score, but their six shots on goal would be saved by CSS goalkeeper Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)). The half would end and the score would stand at 0-0 to start the second half.

Second Half
The Tommies would get two shots on goal, St. Scholastica's Rancour would have a shot blocked and Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) would shoot high to start this half. 11 minutes in, St. Thomas would get goalie out of position for an open net finish, putting them on the board 1-0.

CSS would fight hard for the next 15 minutes before St. Thomas would get a rebound in the box, strengthening their lead to 2-0. 20 seconds later, the Tommies would score again to put them at 3-0.

For the rest of this half, both teams were evenly matched, with the Tommies only shooting three shots on goal. CSS fought hard to get another shot on goal, but with 49 seconds left, St. Thomas headed in their fourth goal of the game. Time would run out and the final score was 4-0.

CSS goalkeeper Rudolph stopped 13 out of 17 shots she faced.

The Saints (0-3-1) travel to North Central University (Minn.) on Wednesday for the first conference game of the season. Game time is scheduled for 4:15 p.m.
