The Tommies opened the season in the Pacific Northwest at the Puget Sound Premiere … After dropping its season opener to Pacific Luther University (Wash.), St. Thomas won its next three matches … Junior Julia Spacek had 29 kills to pace the Tommies … Five separate Tommies recorded at least 20 kills over the weekend … St. Thomas is picked to finish fourth in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) this season … After making the NCAA Tournament last season, the Tommies return sophomore defensive specialist Ellie Meyer, who earned both MIAC and AVCA Central Region Rookie of the Year honors in her first collegiate season … Also leading the attack will be senior middle blocker Whitney Lloyd, who tallied 302 kills, 123 blocks and 100 digs in 31 matches last year.

The Blugolds were out in Claremont, California to open the season over the weekend … Eau Claire opened the season with a win over MCLA, but proceeded to drop three straight matches … Junior Madelyn Pashibin had 45 kills in four matches and added nine blocks … UWEC is picked to finish fifth in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) in 2017 … The Blugolds have won at least 20 matches 17 of the last 18 seasons, but the only returning All-WIAC performer is senior defensive specialist Talia Jaskulske.

The Eagles traveled down to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to open the season last weekend and went 4-0, dropping only one set … Stephanie Henk recorded 42 kills on the weekend and was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Offensive Player of the Week … However, the Eagles stumbled on Wednesday, falling to NAIA's second-ranked Viterbo University (Wis.) in five sets … La Crosse advanced to the NCAA Division III Regional semifinals last season and shared for the conference regular season title … The Eagles moved up to 16
th in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III poll … UWL will be guided by first year head coach Amber Dunn.
Augsburg Auggies

The Auggies also opened the season in the Northwest, but hung out in Oregon where they went 4-0 … Corrina Evans led the team with 45 kills and 10 blocks … Junior setter Morgan Malley was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Setter of the Week … Augsburg has been picked to place third in the MIAC this season after running the table in the conference during the regular season in 2016 … AVCA Honorable Mention All-Americans Macey Terhell and Taylor Linn return … Terhell was the 2016 MIAC Defensive Player of the Year.
