ST. PAUL, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's soccer team beat out conference rival University of Northwestern 3-1 at Reynolds Field Saturday on the Eagles' Homecoming.

First Half
Within five minutes of starting the game, Juan Ochoa (Chihuahua, Mexico/Prepa Tec), assisted by Darby Henderson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS), shot and scored the first goal of the contest. With CSS up 1-0 so early, Ochoa's goal gave the Saints strong momentum for another.

Five minutes later and now 10 minutes into the half, Luke Buckton (Bath, England/Writhlington School) scored his tenth goal of the season, strengthening the Saints lead to 2-0.

As the half went on, both teams kept pace with each other and shut each other down. The Saints did have a few breakaways, earning four shots on goal while the Eagles had one. Jacob Carson (Fairbanks, Alaska/West Valley HS) hit the post on an attempt.

With 50 seconds left to go in the first half, Craig Chudley (Exeter, England/Exeter College) scored after Trygve Rennan (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) set him up with a pass. With Chudley's first goal of his college career, the Saints would be 3-0 going into the second half.

Second Half
To start the second half, Buckton shot on goal within 14 seconds. The second shot on goal of the half and the second shot on goal for Northwestern would come at the 60 minute mark, but was saved by the CSS goalkeeper Sandy Davidson-Hunt (Kenora, Ontario/St. Thomas Aquinas).

For the rest of the half, both teams would be evenly matched, with only three shots on goal for the Saints and none for Northwestern. This was until, with two and a half minutes left in the game, Northwestern shot in a header, scoring to put them on the board.

With the lead narrowed 3-1, Northwestern tried to get another goal, but there wasn't enough time. Time would run out and the game would end with a score of 3-1 in favor of the Saints.

Henderson had four shots on goal while Buckton had three. Ochoa followed close behind with two. St. Scholastica goalkeeper Davidson-Hunt saved two of the three shots he faced.
