MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The College of St. Scholastica women's soccer team found themselves tied going into the half against North Central University (Minn.), but struck gold in the second half by scoring five goals and holding the Rams to nothing. Even more impressive, four of the five goals were scored by
Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS) to make it a historic day for the sophomore forward as the Saints won 5-0.
The Action
It was just four minutes into the second half when CSS struck first, and despite the odds of people thinking it would be one of Rancour's four goals; it was
Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) who got things rolling for the Saints with a netter to make it 1-0.
After Dixon's goal, precisely eight minutes later to be exact, is when the magic occurred. Rancour kicked her first ball past the keeper at the 57:36 mark, but that of course wouldn't be the end. Under a minute later, Rancour found the back of the net again for her second goal of the match in just as many minutes.
The next goal game 45 seconds later, this time assisted by
Hannah Zeis (Ashland, Wis./Ashland HS), as Rancour completed the hat trick to give the Saints a solid four-goal cushion.
Anyone in the stands as well as the viewers online had to have been shocked by the show the CSS forward was putting on. If they were shocked with three goals in three minutes, imagine what was going through everyone's head when Rancour netted her fourth goal a minute later.
Rancour's time of 1:41 between goals one and three place her sixth all-time in the NCAA Division III record books for fastest three consecutive goals scored by the same player. The time between her second and fourth was marked at 2:51, putting her at the eighth spot as well on that list.
Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) played well between the posts, holding a shutout for 84 minutes before teammate
Olivia Schmitz (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS) took over and saved two of her own in the last six minutes of play.
