MANKATO, Minn. (
csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's soccer team beat out Bethany Lutheran College 4-1 Saturday at the BLC field. The Saints dominated the second half by scoring three goals.
First Half
In the first half, the Vikings got things started when they kicked the first shot on goal, which was saved by CSS goalkeeper
Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)). A few minutes later,
Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS) would rush to the net and get Scholastica's first shot on goal.
The two teams would evenly battle until the 22nd minute, where
Rachel Dixon (Superior, Wis./Superior HS) would assist
Jordan Lundberg (Detroit Lakes, Minn./Detroit Lakes HS) for the goal. Lundberg's first goal of her St. Scholastica career would put the Saints ahead 1-0. The Saints would try to play off this momentum, but would instead be scored on seven minutes later.
With the score tied 1-1, both teams fought to get ahead. The Saints would completely shut down the Vikings to no shots on goal, where CSS had four shots on goal. Time would run out and the score would remain tied into the second half.
Second Half
Eight minutes into the second half,
Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS), with the assist from Dixon, would sneak the ball past the goalkeeper to put Scholastica ahead 2-1. The Saints would get in two more shots on goal before Rancour would score again, extending the Saints lead 3-1.
With 14 minutes left to go into the game, BLC would accidentally send the ball back into their own goal, strengthening the CSS lead 4-1. The Vikings would fight to score again by doing some last minute substitutions, but the game would end and the Saints would win 4-1.
