KISSIMMEE, Fla. (csssaints.com) — The St. Scholastica softball team added another tally to the "win" column as well as in the "loss" column on Wednesday, continuing the trend that began on the first day of the spring break Florida road trip.
CSS 1, Carroll (Wis.) 0
The first game was a tight one for the Saints, proving to be a defensive battle between the two teams with only a single run scored by CSS in the 1-0 victory. The Saints held Carroll to just two hits in 23 at bats, while the Saints managed to get seven, two coming from Toni Bishop (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS).
The game was scoreless until the top of the seventh inning when Dakota Underwood (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage HS) doubled to center field for the RBI, pushing Bishop home on the play for the single run of the game. The Pioneers were unable to get anything going in the bottom of the seventh, resulting in the win for CSS.
Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) pitched all seven for the Saints, collecting eight strikeouts in the process. Lexy Kemnitzer was on the mound for the Pioneers to take the loss, managing just a single strike out.
Ramapo 10, CSS 2 (F/5)
The Saints had trouble in the second game, managing just five hits during the game against Ramapo College (N.J.). The Roadrunners doubled that hit count to come away with 10, allowing their 10-2 victory over CSS.
Trouble didn't hit for the Saints until the second inning, when Ramapo got five runners around the diamond on three hits, aided in their scoring run by two fielding errors committed by the Saints. CSS would have an unsuccessful bottom-half of the inning, making the score 5-0 headed into the third.
The Saints defense had better luck in the third, holding the Roadrunners to just a single run. CSS then made up some ground while at bat, first on a Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) RBI single, followed by another RBI single by Hannah Borgeson (Woodville, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville HS) to make the score 6-2. Unfortunately for the Saints, that would be the last of their scoring.
The fourth inning extended the lead even further for Ramapo when they managed to send four runners home to give the game its final score of 10-2 in five innings.
Vanessa Kohl (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) pitched two full innings for the Saints to take the loss. Jena O'Byrne (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville HS) came in as relief to finish out the final three innings played, earning five strikeouts. Alexa Bremer (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) had two of the five Saints hits.
