KISSIMMEE, Fla. (csssaints.com) – The College of St. Scholastica softball team kept to its pattern, splitting yet another day of games in Florida. Its Florida record fell to under .500 after a 5-2 loss to Transylvania University (Ky.), but bounced back to even the record back up at 4-4 after taking down Mount Saint Mary College (N.Y.) by a score of 2-0 in its second game of the day.

Transylvania 5, CSS 2
Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) started on the rubber for the Saints, who were looking to head out of Thursday's games with a pair of wins instead of the usual split they had been accustomed to since arriving in Florida. The Pioneers got on Schley early, knocking a run across in the top of the first off a Shelby Bailey RBI double. Then, it was two sacrifice flies in the second inning to help push the Pioneer lead to 3-0.

Schley helped herself out, however, in the bottom of the third inning. With bases loaded, the starting pitcher singled a shot to right center, knocking in Alexa Bremer (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and Dakota Underwood (Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage HS). The Schley single brought the Saints to within one run, as the score read 3-2 heading into the fourth.

Scoring seized for the next three innings, as neither team could muster a run across. Transylvania strung together a pair of doubles in the seventh inning to knock across two more runs, making the score 5-2 heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Saints final batters went down 1-2-3 in their last chance effort, which resulted in a loss to start their Thursday afternoon.

CSS 2, Mount St. Mary 0
Game two didn't provide much action, as a pitcher's duel broke out between Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) and Mount Saint Mary's Bridget Bennett. The Saints were able to string together a few hits through the first three innings, but weren't able to capitalize and left runners stranded in multiple innings. The Knights earned their first hits on Mizera in the bottom of the third, but weren't able to advance the runners as Mizera forced some key ground-ball outs.

The top of the fifth is where all the scoring happened as the Saints were able to knock across two runs on Bennett and the Knights. With two runners on, much like the previous game with Schley knocking in two teammates, Underwood singled to the outfield to pick up two RBIs and provide a lead for the Saints.

Mizera was solid the remainder of the game, only allowing one hit in the last three innings as the Knights weren't able to get past the Saints defense down the stretch. Mizera ended the game with six strikeouts, while only giving up five hits to win her third straight decision. Hannah Borgeson (Woodville, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville HS) and Schley each collected two hits in the game, leading the Saints offensively.

Up Next
The Saints (4-8) will be off tomorrow, earning some much needed rest after four games in two days, but will be back on the field Saturday morning for a pair of games against Skidmore College (N.Y.) and William Paterson University (N.J.). The first game against Skidmore is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. (ET).
