ROCHESTER, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team suffered two more defeats to Simpson College (Iowa) and No. 6 Luther College (Iowa) on Sunday to conclude play at the Rochester Dome Tournament.

Simpson 3, CSS 2
Simpson jumped out to a three-run lead and then held off the Saints to win 3-2 in the first game of the day.

The Storm plated a run in the top of the first and then added two runs in the fifth to make it 3-0. The Saints pushed a run across in the bottom of the sixth when Chrisi Mizera (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln-Way East HS) singled in Hannah Borgeson (Woodville, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville HS) to make it 3-1. However, CSS would strand runners at second and third in the inning.

After Simpson left runners at the corners in the top of the seventh, the Saints put pressure on the Storm in the bottom of the inning. Down to their final out, an error allowed Jena O'Byrne (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville HS) to score to make it 3-2. With the tying run on base again, the Saints would fly out to end the game in Simpson's favor 3-2.

Borgeson was 3-for-3 with a run scored to lead the CSS eight-hit attack. Kayleigh Snyder and Brianna Chaplin had two hits apiece to lead the Storm (1-2).

O'Byrne allowed only five hits and struck out three in the loss. Arianna Kim had six strikeouts for the Storm.

#6 Luther 6, CSS 0
Sixth-ranked Luther improved to 3-0 with a 6-0 victory over the Saints in the second game of the day.

St. Scholastica allowed two runs in the bottom of the first and then a RBI double in the third inning as the Norse built a 3-0 lead. CSS then allowed three unearned runs in the fourth inning to extend the margin to 6-0.

The Saints had runners on base in five of the seven innings, including stranding a runner at third base in the top of the first, but could not generate enough offense in the 6-0 defeat.

Olivia Bretting (Ashland, Wis. /Ashland HS ) was 2-for-2 as the Saints finished with five hits. Anna Stein had two hits and two RBIs for the Norse.

Mizera recorded six strikeouts in the loss for the Saints. Annie Versnik earned the victory for Luther.
