ADRIAN, Mich. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica men's hockey team suffered a 4-2 loss against No. 5 Adrian College (Mich.) on Saturday to end the regular season.
The Action
The first period didn't see any action until more than half way through, when the Bulldogs took advantage of a cross-checking penalty that put them on the power play and made the score 1-0. Less than a minute later, Kyle Star (Langley, British, Columbia/Brookswood (Trail Smoke-BCHL)) answered for the Saints with an unassisted goal to tie things up at 1-1, the only goal of the game that occurred while both teams were at full strength. Adrian had the last point of the period on another power play goal with just under two minutes to go in the first period.
The second period was a slow one, despite 10 power plays - seven for the Saints and three for the Bulldogs. Between the two teams, only one shot would find the net, coming on a power play from Adrian early in the period. The 2-1 score remained unchanged through the rest of the period. In the final two seconds of the period, a tripping penalty on the Bulldogs set the Saints up to have a man advantage to open the third period.
CSS got their final tally on the board, after just 37 seconds into the final period of play, utilizing the penalty that carried over from the previous period. Steven Phee (Balzac, Alberta/George McDougall HS (Canmore-AJHL) ) was credited with the goal, assisted by Brett Radford (Campbell River, British Columbia/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL)) and Mark Whiteley (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross HS (Marian University)) to make it a one-goal game. The Saints were only within one goal of the lead for a minute and a half though, as Adrian quickly netted the final goal of the game to make the score 4-2.
Goaltending
Peter Megariotis (Anaheim Hills, Calif./Canyon HS (Adrian)) was between the pipes for the Saints, saving 38 of the 42 shots he faced. For the Bulldogs, Kevin Entmaa saved 25 of the 27 shots fired his way.
