HOUGHTON, Mich. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's hockey team dominated in its contest against Finlandia University (Mich.) on Friday night, coming away with a 10-2 victory. The Saints had three players score multiple goals, including Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)), who collected her first hat trick of the season.

The Action
The Lions struck first during the game, after a 1:09 had passed. The Saints would not manage their first goal until three quarters of the period had passed, when Sierra Hanowski (Warroad, Minn./Warroad HS), assisted by Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS), tied up the score at 1-1 with four minutes left in the period. 30 seconds later, Klaas hit her first goal of the game, assisted by Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS), to take the 2-1 lead.

The Saints kept rolling after that. 39 seconds into the second period, Emily Stegora (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS (Minnesota State-Mankato)) found the net with help from Hanowski and Klaas, followed quickly by Broman and her first goal of the game, assisted by Nundahl and Tessa Lowry (Calgary, Alberta/Edge School). One minute later, Hanowski and Stegora helped Klaas score her second goal of the game to make the score 5-1 after less than three minutes had passed in the second period. The Lions took advantage of a power play 10 minutes later to get their second point on the board, but there was no stopping CSS. Hanowski answered 30 seconds later, with help from Stegora and Klaas - the triad's third successful scoring play of the game - to make the score 6-2 to end the second period.

The third period saw four more goals for the Saints, and none for the Lions. Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) started things off unassisted, followed by Broman on the power play for her second goal of the game, assisted by Kennedy Houge (Woodbury, Minn./Hill-Murray HS) and Sawyer, putting the score at 8-2 four minutes into the third period. Klaas hit her unassisted hat trick goal after eight minutes of play, and to finish off the scoring rampage by the Saints, Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)), assisted by Sami Anderson (Roseville, Minn./Roseville HS), slid one between the pipes to make the score 10-2.

Goaltending
Lindsey Hartfiel (Big Lake, Minn./Buffalo HS) recorded the victory for the Saints, saving 17 shots over the course of the game. Two goalies split the time for the Lions. Annah Smiddy saved 26 of 32 shots she faced in two periods, and Sarah Gundry saved 9 of 13.
