csssaints.com)- The St. Scholastica women's hockey team succeeded against St. Norbert College (Wis.) 4-1 Saturday afternoon at the Resch Olympic Pavilion.
The Action
With eight minutes remaining in the first period,
Emily Stegora (Red Wing, Minn./Red Wing HS (Minnesota State-Mankato)), with assists from
Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) and
Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)), got things started for the Saints by scoring on a power play opportunity. Stegora's goal put the Saints up first with a score of 1-0.
Stegora, with help from Klaas and Johnson, would score again on another power play opportunity seven minutes into the second period. With the team up 2-0, CSS fought hard against St. Norbert (4-4-2, 4-2-2 NCHA). Two minutes after the second CSS goal, the Green Knights pushed through the CSS defense and scored their first goal, lessening the lead to 2-1.
With four minutes left in the second period, Klaas and
Greta Nundahl (New Brighton, Minn./Irondale HS) assisted Stegora for a short handled goal. This hat trick goal put the score at 3-1 in favor of the Saints.
In the third period, CSS struggled to get another goal until
Brandi Malwitz (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS) scored unassisted off a breakaway. This final goal sealed Scholastica's win, with the final score of 4-1.
CSS goaltender
Lexi Thomeczek (St. Louis, Mo./St. Joseph Academy (St. Louis AAA Blues)) stopped 17 out of 18 shots she faced. Her current save percentage is .939, the fourth highest in the conference.

For only the second time this season, the Saints (6-1-2, 5-1-2 NCHA) return to Duluth to host at Mars Lakeview Arena. The non-conference game against Hamline University is scheduled for next Friday at 4 p.m.
