HOUGHTON, Mich. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's and women's Nordic ski teams competed in time trials on Sunday in the U.P. Opener, hosted by Michigan Tech University.
The event was originally scheduled to be hosted by Northern Michigan University and be a two-day event, but it had to be moved to Houghton and adjusted to one day due to lack of snow. Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) programs Michigan Tech, Northern Michigan and University of Wisconsin-Green Bay all competed in the event.
MEN
In the 15km classic, freshman
Tamer Mische-Richter (Bloomington, Minn./John F. Kennedy HS) made an impressive debut for the Saints, placing fourth with a time of 47:35.26.
Junior
Dan DeLestry (Eau Claire, Wis./Eau Claire Memorial HS) was 17
th with a time of 50:24.20. Junior
Isaac Wieber (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Tech HS) followed in 18
th, posting a time of 51:10.01. Freshman
Ryan Steger (Eagan, Minn./Eagan HS) was the last Saint to compete, placing 22
nd with a time of 51:38.96.
WOMEN
In the 10km classic, junior
Nicole Gilman (Manitowish Waters, Wis./Lakeland Union HS) led the Saints with a time of 39:47.12, which put her 11
th. Freshman
Hanna Dahlberg (Ulricehamn, Sweden/Tingsholms School) was 13
th with a time of 40:41.04. The final Saint to compete was freshman
Samantha Benzing (Boise, Idaho/Boise HS), who was 14
th with a time of 41:19.33.
