csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's hockey team improved to 5-0 for the first time in program history after a 6-0 victory over Northland College Saturday night at the Bay Area Civic Center.
Four-Goal Third Period
The Saints put the game away in the third period. Leading 2-0 after the second intermission, St. Scholastica scored its second short-handed goal of the game when
Amanda Broman (Mankato, Minn./Mankato East HS) scored her first goal of the season with 14 minutes remaining.
Tessa Lowry (Calgary, Alberta/Edge School) and
Taylor Thompson (Buffalo, Minn./Buffalo HS) had the assists.
Two minutes later,
Alexia Klaas (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) found the net on the power-play to make it 4-0.
Mac Johnson (Monticello, Minn./Monticello HS (St. Cloud State)) was credited with the assist. Another two minutes past until
Abby Sawyer (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) recorded her second goal of the game with assists from
Kaleigh Hamann (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS) and
Rachel Anderson (Shoreview, Minn./Mounds View HS).
The last goal of the game came from
Brandi Malwitz (Thief River Falls, Minn./Lincoln HS), a Minnesota National Guard member on Veteran's Day, to make the final tally 6-0.
Denisa Lalikova (Puchov, Slovakia/Proctor Academy, N.H.) had the assist.
First Two Periods
The first period was scoreless until the final two minutes when Thompson scored a short-handed goal to give CSS a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
The second goal of the contest came in the final three minutes of the second period when Sawyer scored her second goal of the season with assists from Hamann and Anderson.
Goaltending
Freshman goaltender
Lori Huseby (Babbitt, Minn./Northeast Range HS) recorded her second shutout in her second collegiate start, stopping all 11 shots she faced.
Maggie Cusey had 34 saves in the loss for the LumberJills (2-4, 1-3 NCHA).
