ST. PAUL, Minn. (csssaints.com) - The St. Scholastica women's soccer team had a rough day on Wednesday in its non-conference game against Hamline University, losing 5-1.
The Action
The first goal of the game came just past the 30 minute mark. There was a scrum in front of the net and the ball was headed in by Ellie Baxter to put Hamline up 1-0. Just 10 seconds later and Hamline would find the net again, this time coming from Jordan Roderick-Fried, her first of three during the game. The Saints would get one shot on goal in the remaining minutes before half time, but could not get it past the keeper. The teams went into halftime with Hamline leading 2-0.
The Saints came out strong in the second half. Janelle Rouillard (Dayton, Minn./Rogers HS) hit her fourth goal of the season less than 10 minutes into the half to bring the Saints within one point of the lead. Hamline was not to be beaten, however. In 18 minutes they put three goals on the board, two coming from Roderick-Fried and the third coming from Brittany Beckman. This made the score 5-1, which would carry the teams through the end of the game.
Notable Performances
Rouillard had the sole goal for CSS, her fourth of the year. She had four of the seven shots on goal for the Saints. Kailee Katt (Esko, Minn./Esko HS (St. Catherine)) put pressure on the goalkeeper too, with two shots on goal. Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth)) and Olivia Schmitz (Caledonia, Minn./Caledonia HS) split time between the pipes, making one and two saves, respectively.Â
For the Pipers, Roderick-Fried scored on three of the four shots on goal she had. In goal for Hamline was Melanie Hopkins who made six saves out of the seven she faced.
