Gilman Leads Women's Skiing in 10km Freestyle

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's ski team completed action at the Marshall School Trails on Sunday with the 10km freestyle race at the Hilltop Invitational.

Sunday's Change
Due to last week's warm-up, Sunday's scheduled 10km classic races could not take place because race officials were unable to create the classic racing grooves. So like Saturday, Sunday's races would also be freestyle races, but five kilometers longer than yesterday. However, that meant that today's action would not be a Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA)/NCAA Qualifier point race.

The Action
With today's races not counting in the CCSA/NCAA Qualifier, many of the top skiers sat out for CSS. Northern Michigan University also did not compete. However, the Saints still had five skiers in action today.

Freshman Nicole Gilman (Manitowish Waters, Wis./Lakeland Union HS) paced the Saints with a 17th place finish in a time of 29:30. Sophomore Greta Jenkins (Palmer, Alaska/Colony HS) also posted a top 20 finish, coming home 20th in a time of 30:02. Allison Ternes (Vadnais Heights, Minn./White Bear Lake HS) finished 23rd, posting a time of 30:17.

Up Next
The Saints will compete in the CCSA Distance Championships in Houghton, Michigan next weekend.
