PREVIEW: Men's Hockey Heads to Milwaukee this Weekend

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's hockey team will travel to southeast Wisconsin this weekend for a two-game Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NHCA) series against the Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE).

Last Action: The Saints began 2017 with a series sweep of Finlandia University (Mich.) last weekend at Mars Lakeview Arena … In Friday night's 4-2 victory over the Lions, senior Brandon Millin (Port Moody, British Columbia/Heritage Woods HS (Notre Dame Hounds-SJHL) ) recorded all four goals, with three coming in the three period alone, including two in the final two minutes to break a 2-2 tie … Millin was named the NCHA Offensive Player of the Week for his performance … Then on Saturday, the Saints received a hat trick from freshman forward Brett Radford (Campbell River, British Columbia/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame (Canmore-AJHL)) in the team's 5-3 victory to complete the sweep.
 
Back-to-Back Hat Tricks: With Millin registering a hat trick on Friday night and Radford recording a hat trick the following day, it marked the first time in program history the Saints have had hat tricks in back-to-back games … CSS has had six hat tricks since the start of the 2014-15 season.
 
Four-Goal Games: Millin's four-goal performance on Friday night was only the sixth time in program history a player has recorded at least four goals in a game … The last time it occurred was when Carter Davis recorded four goals against Marian University (Wis.) on November 27, 2010 … However, it was the first time out of those six where Millin contributed to every CSS goal in the contest.
 
Series Sweeps: The Saints have swept both home NCHA series that is played in thus far this season … In the lone NCHA road series they were swept by Marian University (Wis.) on December 2 and 3 … The Saints swept Lawrence University (Wis.) and Finlandia on the road last season … Prior to that, the last time CSS swept a NCHA road series was against MSOE to open the 2013-14 season.
 
Stat Leaders: Millin currently leads the team with 10 goals and 17 points. He ranks 11th in NCAA Division III and second in the conference with 0.77 goals per game … Junior defenseman Mark Whiteley (Surrey, British Columbia/Holy Cross HS (Marian University)) had four assists last weekend and ranks fourth among NCHA defenseman with 10 assists

The Raiders are coming off a series split against Lake Forest College (Ill.) last weekend … After starting the season 1-3-2, MSOE is 4-2-1 in its last seven games … Three of those four wins came out of conference against Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) programs … Senior forward Gage Christianson leads the team with seven goals and 16 points … Christianson is tied for third in the league with nine points on the power-play and has two short-handed points on the year … Christianson and junior forward James Ring each lead the team with nine assists … Senior goaltender Zach Woodman has seen the majority of time between the pipes and has a 2.88 goals-against-average and a .910 save percentage … Opponents have scored the first goal against the Raiders in 10 of the 13 games as MSOE has been outscored 18-10 in the first period.

Series History: The Raiders defeated the Saints for the first time in program history with a 3-2 win at Mars Lakeview Arena last January … This is will be St. Scholastica's second-ever trip to MSOE as it swept the Raiders in both games in November of 2013.
 
Looking Ahead: The Saints return to Mars Lakeview Arena for a two-game NCHA series against Lawrence University (Wis.) on January 20 and 21.
