PREVIEW: Soccer Bridge Battle Set for Wednesday

DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica men's and women's soccer teams will be across the bridge in Superior on Wednesday for key Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) games against rival University of Wisconsin-Superior.

CSS Notes: The Saints defeated the University of Northwestern 2-1 in Saturday's UMAC Game of the Week at Saints Field … CSS recorded two goals in the first 21 minutes and then held on late to defeat the Eagles … The victory snapped a five-game winless streak … Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS ) who scored and had an assist in the Northwestern win, leads the team with three goals this season … Becca Rancour (Hutchinson, Minn./Hutchinson HS ) has the team's other two goals … CSS leads the conference, allowing 0.86 goals per game this season thanks in large part to freshman goalkeeper Roni Rudolph (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS (Minnesota-Duluth) )  who is averaging 6.8 saves per game.
 
UWS Notes: The Yellowjackets (0-5-0) have yet to play a conference game this season and have been shut out in each of their last four games … The lone goal scored this season was in the season opener by Tatum Lardinois … UWS returns honorable mention All-UMAC choice Britt Zieroth, who recorded four goals last season, the most by a Yellowjackets since the 2012 season … Goalkeeper Bailey Henderson was named the UMAC Defensive Player of the Week this week after collecting 33 saves in three games last week.

Last Meeting: The Saints blanked the Yellowjackets 2-0 and 4-0 last season … The 2-0 game came in Superior with the contest being played at Superior High School … CSS has now allowed a goal against UWS in the last seven meetings.

CSS Notes: The Saints blanked the University of Northwestern 3-0 on Saturday at Saints Field … Kyle Farrar (London, England/Kelsey Park Sports College) recorded a pair of goals to move into second place all-time on the program's all-time scoring list … Luke Buckton (Bath, England/Writhlington School) recorded two assists and was named the UMAC Offensive Player of the Week … Freshman goalkeeper Corrado Rosato (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) made four saves in the victory, including one on a penalty kick when the game was still scoreless … Rosato was named the UMAC Defensive Player of the Week …  The Saints are unbeaten in their last 88 UMAC regular season games and at 102 games if you count postseason contests, which is two games shy of NCAA Division III record.
 
UWS Notes: This will be the conference opener for the Yellowjackets (0-6-0) as they are also in search of their first victory of the year … UWS has been shutout in six of the seven games, but have played strong regional opponents … Three of the six losses have come in overtime, including a 1-0 overtime loss to the University of St. Thomas on Sunday … This will be the second home game of the year for the 'jackets as they lost the first in overtime against Bethel University … Look out for midfielder Gio Rodriguez, who hasn't scored yet this season, but is back with UWS after a year away from the school … Rodriguez was named the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Player of the Year in 2014.

Last Meeting: The Saints took down the Yellowjackets three times last season, including 5-0 in the UMAC Tournament championship game … CSS has won four straight against UWS, the longest streak in the series since taking five straight in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
