DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica women's soccer team fell in an early 2-0 hole in the first half on Sunday against Loras College (Iowa) and despite having the Duhawks on their heels in the second half fell by a final of 2-1 at Saints Field.

After falling 1-0 to UW-Oshkosh in the Advantage Emblem Cup opener on Saturday, the Saints looked to bounce back and grab a win against the Duhawks of Loras College in the back-half of the tournament. It didn't start the way they had envisioned it.

Loras, who had just played in a double-overtime match on Saturday, got rolling early thanks to a CSS foul in the box, which resulted in a penalty kick. Sydney Wright converted the penalty just seven minutes into the game to start things off for the Duhawks.

About 13 minutes later, around the 21-minute mark, teammate Riley O'Neill decided to join the scoring column sneakign in a free kick that just crossed the goal line after hitting the crossbar. Despite these two shots being half of the Duhawks shots on goal for the day, it would be enough to squeak past the Saints, who would control the tempo and ball for a majority of the game.

CSS in fact outshot the Duhawks 13-7, and produced six shots on goal to Loras' four. The Saints also played a much cleaner game than that of the Duhawks, committing just nine fouls compared to that of 19 by Loras. Despite the statistics being in their favor, however, St. Scholastica couldn't manage to put the ball in between the two posts more than once in the game.

The lone goal from the players in blue came with less than one-minute left in regulation, when a penalty was awared to the Saints and Taylor Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS ) beat the keeper for her second goal of the year to make the final score 2-1. Loras improves to 4-0-0 with victory and captured the Advantage Emblem Cup championmship.
