DULUTH, Minn. (
csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team concluded the regular season on Sunday at Wade Stadium with a non-conference doubleheader sweep of No. 15 University of St. Thomas.
Game 1: CSS 8, UST 1
The Saints had six runners come in to score in the bottom of the second en route to an 8-1 victory.
Jacob Dzubay (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS (Butler) ) scattered six hits and gave up just one run to earn the complete game win.
CSS got the scoring started with a
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) RBI single in the bottom of the first. The Tommies answered in the top of the second with a RBI double to tie it at 2-2.
In the bottom frame,
Conor Wollenzien (North Mankato, Minn. /Mankato West HS) opened with single that was followed by a
Chris Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS ) ground-rule double. A hit-by-pitch loaded the bases.
Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) drew a one out walk to score a run.
Al Marolt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) came up next and hit a two-run single to left. That was followed by another Minks RBI single to make it 5-1.
Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) and
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS ) added two more RBIs to make it 7-1.
Wollenzien added a RBI single in the fourth to make the final 8-1. The Saints had 12 hits in the victory
Game 2: CSS 6, UST 2
The Saints fell behind early in game two, but scored two runs in third, fourth and fifth innings to take the nightcap and complete the sweep 6-2.
The Tommies loaded the bases in the top of the first with no outs. However,
Gino Strebing (Tucson, Ariz./Santa Rita HS (Rainy River CC) ) would only allow two runs in the inning on a sacrifice fly and a fielder's choice.
CSS got the offense going in the third inning. With one out and runners at the corners, Marolt singled to right to bring in
Jake Kuschke (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS ). Minks then got A. Colvard across on a fielder's choice to tie it at 2-2.
In the bottom of the fourth,
Drew Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS ) put St. Scholastica in front with a RBI single to score Wollenzien. A. Colvard followed with a RBI groundout to extend the lead to 4-2. The Saints added more insurance in the fifth with RBIs coming from
Sam Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) and Wollenzien to make it 6-2.
Freshman
Isaac Rocha (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS) pitched the final three innings for the Saints and allowed only one hit and struck out three to earn his second save of the season. Strebing settled down after the first, allowing four hits in four innings to earn the victory.

The Saints (28-9) will host the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament at Wade Stadium beginning on Thursday. CSS will open with the University of Minnesota Morris at 1 p.m. The other matchup with feature the University of Northwestern and the University of Wisconsin-Superior at 10 a.m.
