Baseball Sweeps Doubleheader with Morris

MORRIS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team won both games of a doubleheader with the University of Minnesota Morris on Saturday by final scores of 10-3 and 10-0.
 
Game 1: CSS 10 UMM 3
Morris jumped out to an early 3-2 lead after three innings and looked in control of the game early.
 
It was not until the third inning that the Saints took over the game. CSS scored four runs in the inning and sent eight batters to the plate.
 
The first two runs of the inning came on an Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) two-RBI single that scored Riley Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn. /Floodwood HS) and Haydn Lanoue (Rosemount, Minn. /Rosemount HS ) to jump the Saints in front 4-3.
 
The final two runs for the Saints were scored when Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS ) cracked a two-run double to right field scoring Colvard and Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ).
 
CSS would score four additional runs in the seventh inning with four different players recording RBIs. First Chris Olson (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS ) hit an RBI groundout, and was followed by an R. Bernsdorf RBI single. At this point the game was 8-3.
 
After the Bernsdorf RBI single, Lanoue hit into an RBI fielder's choice to make the score 9-3. The final run of the game came on a Drew Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS ) RBI single that set the final score at 10-3 in favor of CSS.
 
Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) finished the game 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI, while Jacob Dzubay (St. Michael, Minn./St. Michael-Albertville HS (Butler) ) got the win on the mound throwing 2.2 innings of relief allowing just two hits. Jake Turner (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS ) went 4.1 innings, striking out three and allowing only one hit to earn the save.
 
Game 2: CSS 10 UMM 0 (8 inn.)
It was all CSS from the get go in game two vs. Morris.
 
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) and Neutzling got the scoring started in the first inning driving in two runs to put the Saints in front 2-0.
 
CSS scored a total of seven runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. In the fifth inning, the Saints scored four of the seven runs on RBI hits by Neutzling, Lanoue, and Sam Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) to set the score at 9-0.
 
The final run of the game was scored in the eighth inning when Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS ) hit a sacrifice fly to center scoring Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) for the 10th run of the game.
 
Minks finished game two 4-for-5, while Neutzling, Lanoue, and Christofferson tallied two hits apiece.
 
Jordan Risse (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington HS ) threw seven shutout innings for the win striking out a career-high 12 and allowing only one hit.
 
Up Next
St. Scholastica (9-7) is scheduled to play host to North Central University in its home opener on Tuesday for a doubleheader. Game one is set to begin at 1:30 p.m.
