NEW ULM, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica softball team got back to the diamond and swept Martin Luther College in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader 8-0 and 10-2 Saturday.

Game 1: CSS 8, MLC 0 (F/5)
The Saints jumped out for four quick runs in the first two innings en route to a five inning 8-0 victory in game one.

Micah McGuiness (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) and Kara Warren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS) combined to drive in the first two runs of the game on a sacrifice fly and a squeeze bunt to take a 2-0 lead.

Hannah Borgeson (Woodville, Wis./Baldwin-Woodville HS) accounted for both second inning runs with a two-RBI single to center scoring Maggie Schley (Mounds View, Minn./Irondale HS) and Becca Zwak (Duluth, Minn./Duluth East HS) to put CSS up 4-0 after two.

After a scoreless third inning, the Saints doubled their lead in the fourth scoring four runs. First, Schley hit an RBI single up the middle scoring Alexa Bremer (Forest Lake, Minn./Forest Lake HS) for the first run, then Nikki Logergren (Duluth, Minn./Duluth Denfeld HS (Northern Stars)) smacked a three-run inside the park home run for the eighth and final run of the game.

In the end, McGuinness slammed the door in the bottom of the fourth and Jill Rosby (Brooklyn Park, Minn./Park Center HS ) pitched a scoreless fifth to end the game by the eight-run mercy rule. McGuiness struck out six in four innings to earn the win.

Borgeson finished the game 3-for-3 with two RBIs and a run on the game, while Warren, Schley, and Bremer all finished with two hits for the Saints.

Game 2: CSS 10, MLC 2
CSS used a five-run fifth inning to pull away in game two and come away with a UMAC sweep.

Warren accounted for the first two RBIs of the game for CSS on singles in the first and third to put the Saints up 2-0 early on.

In the fifth inning with CSS up 3-0, the Saints would rattle off five runs highlighted by RBI singles by Schley and Warren to set the score at 8-0 in favor of the Saints.

CSS would add two more runs after Martin Luther managed to score two of their own with Warren again accounting for one of them while the other was driven in by Carley Moisio (Hoyt Lakes, Minn./Mesabi East HS).

In the end the Saints came away with a road doubleheader sweep of Martin Luther as game two ended 10-2 in favor of St. Scholastica.

Warren ended game two going 3-for-5 with four RBIs, while on the rubber Jena O'Byrne (Stewartville, Minn./Stewartville HS) got her first collegiate win throwing a complete game, allowing two unearned runs, while striking out nine and allowing only four hits.
