DULUTH, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica baseball team took care of business Saturday afternoon at home, sweeping the Vikings of Bethany Lutheran College in an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) doubleheader and extending its winning streak to seven games.
Game 1: CSS 11, BLC 0 (F/7)
The Saints were held scoreless in the first inning, but scored four runs in the second to open up an early advantage.
Al Marolt (Lino Lakes, Minn./Centennial HS) started the scoring off by scoring on a wild pitch and
Jake Kuschke (Mahtomedi, Minn./Mahtomedi HS ) scored shortly after on a
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) double. Minks would come around to score on a
Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) single later in the inning, advancing
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS ) to second, as he had reached earlier in the inning. Bernsdorf would cross the plate for the final run of the inning on a
Sam Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn./Osseo HS ) double, giving CSS an early 4-0 advantage.
The Saints would add three runs to their lead in the third, as Marolt scored again on a Bethany Lutheran error following a Kuschke single.
Drew Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS ) then tripled to bring Kuschke home and open up a 6-0 advantage for St. Scholastica.

Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) knocked him in on a groundout to second, bringing the Saint lead to 7-0 through three innings. The Saints would add a pair of runs in both the fourth and fifth innings, highlighted by Marolt scoring on a wild pitch for the second time in the game, as CSS would cruise to an 11-0 victory.

Game 2: CSS 11, BLC 1 (F/7)
In the second game of the doubleheader, the Saints again took an early lead and never looked back, scoring four quick runs in the first.
Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) brought
Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) and
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) home on a single to right. The single would advance
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS ) to second, and both he and Neutzling would take an extra base on a Viking error. Both runners would later score on a
Haydn Lanoue (Rosemount, Minn. /Rosemount HS ) single.
After the Saints added a run in the third to make it 5-0, the Vikings were able to get a man across the plate on a sacrifice fly to bring the score to 5-1 in the fourth. However, the Saints would score three runs in the fifth to break the game open and take a seven-run lead.
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS ) knocked in
Austin Colvard (Little Canada, Minn./Roseville HS) on a fielder's choice, and would come home later in the inning on a Lanoue single.
Steven Neutzling (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral ) would cap off the scoring on a sacrifice fly from
Conor Wollenzien (North Mankato, Minn. /Mankato West HS), giving the Saints an 8-1 advantage.
Trevor Bernsdorf (Meadowlands, Minn./Floodwood HS ) would add a pair of insurance runs in the sixth on a two-RBI single, and CSS would add an unearned run in the seventh to end the game at 11-1 in favor of the home team.
Just as in the first contest, the Saints scored 11 runs on 15 hits, while the Vikings scored one run on five hits.
Brian Minks (St. Cloud, Minn./St. Cloud Cathedral HS ) went 4-for-4 and scored three runs, while
Haydn Lanoue (Rosemount, Minn. /Rosemount HS ) was 3-for-4 with three RBIs.
Ben Christofferson (Maple Grove, Minn. /Osseo HS) picked up the win for CSS, giving up one run in four innings of work. Anthony Radloff took the loss for the Vikings, giving up five runs in 2.1 innings.
